Sofia is governed by the Sofia Municipality (Stolichna Obshtina), divided into 24 districts (rayoni).
City Hall

District Offices (Rayonni Administratsii)
Each of the 24 districts has an administration handling local matters. Key central districts:
- Sredets — city centre, NDK area
- Oborishte — government quarter
- Triaditsa — Vitosha Boulevard, southern areas
- Studentski — student district, University of Sofia
Services at district offices include:
- Residence registration (address registration for foreigners)
- Civil status documents (birth, marriage, death)
- Social assistance
- Local taxes and fees
- Building permits
Key Documents
- Address registration: Required for foreigners staying > 30 days — register at the Migration Directorate, not district offices
- Bulgarian ID (lichna karta): Through the Ministry of Interior (police)
- Driver’s licence: Through the Traffic Police (KAT)
