Sofia operates a regulated parking system with colour-coded paid zones.
Parking Zones
- Blue Zone: City centre — ~2.00 €/hour, max 2 hours
- Green Zone: Surrounding central districts — ~1.50 €/hour, max 4 hours
- Yellow Zone: Residential areas — ~1.00 €/hour, residents exempt
- Hours: Mon–Fri 8:30–19:30, Sat 9:00–17:00, free on Sundays
Payment
- EasyPay app — most commonly used (download before arrival)
- Parking meters — accept coins, cards (blue zone meters at most street corners)
- SMS — short code published on zone signs
- Prepaid vouchers — from newsagents (kiosks)
Parking Garages
Limited underground parking, mostly in shopping centres and hotel basements:
- Parking under the National Palace of Culture (NDK): ~2 €/hour
- Mall of Sofia: ~1.50 €/hour
- Serdika Centre: ~2.50 €/hour
- Monthly parking: ~100–200 €/month in central garages
Tips
- City centre streets have very limited parking — use the metro or a taxi
- Residential permits (for the yellow zone) are ~100–200 €/year
- Parking enforcement is strict — fines ~20–50 € for violations
- Clamping and towing are used for serious violations
- The Blue Zone is actively patrolled — don’t overstay
- For Vitosha Mountain, use the free parking lot at the Simeonovo lift and take the cable car up
